Dogs defecate about 30,000 tons of waste each day — that’s 10 million tons each year! In contrast, cats produce 1.2 million tons every year.
The invention is credited to Brooke Miller, of Anaheim, California. The design she patented is a metal bin with a rake-like edge attached to a wooden stick. It also includes a rake-like device to scoop the poop into the scooper and a hatch that can be attached to a garbage bag that fits onto the base. A one-handed scooper leaves your hand free to hold onto your dog. This is more practical when walking your dog.
While cats try to bury their feces, dogs do not. Dogs also sometimes like to eat the excrement of their fellow dogs.
Even if your dog does not show symptoms of being sick, their waste can carry diseases that are harmful to other animals and humans. Salmonella, E. coli and roundworms are a few of the diseases that can be found in dog poop.
