International Nonviolent Communication Day (NVC Day) is celebrated every year on October 6, the birthday of Dr. Marshall B. Rosenberg, the founder of Nonviolent Communication. This day was first established in 2016 and serves to spread the principles of NVC and pay tribute to Rosenberg's life's work.
History and significance: Dr. Marshall B. Rosenberg developed NVC as a method to improve interpersonal relationships and resolve conflicts peacefully. His work was inspired by the humanistic psychology of his teacher Carl Rogers and Gandhi's principles of non-violence. Rosenberg emphasized that the way we speak is critical to our ability to remain empathetic1.
Highlights and activities - The day will be celebrated globally with a variety of activities including:
* Workshops and talks to promote NVC.
* Performances and improvisations that illustrate the principles of NVC.
* Initiatives in schools, businesses and communities to promote cooperative interaction.
Special features: The CSF is not only used in everyday situations, but also in crisis and war zones to promote dialog between hostile groups, such as in Israel and Palestine. It has established itself as an effective tool in areas such as education, psychotherapy, diplomacy and negotiation.
