New Year in Mayan Calendar

Every year in the Mayan calendar, on July 26th, a new cycle begins and the Mayan New Year is celebrated. Prior to this, on July 25, the Day Out of Time or Green Day is celebrated, a day of inner reflection, in contact with nature and meditation about the cycles we go through.

Let's remember that, unlike our Gregorian calendar, for the Mayan civilization the year has a duration of 13 months of 28 days. That is the time it takes the Earth to make a complete turn around the Sun.

The Western almanac imposed in 1582, and used since then, is based on the idea that our planet revolves around the Sun for 365 days and every four years one more day is added - on February 29, which defines leap year - to adjust the six-hour time lag accumulated per year.

Those who vindicate the Mayan calendar claim that the Gregorian calendar gives rise to a mismatch that impacts on the perception of the environment and reality, and therefore propose to abandon it and use the Mayan calendar to perceive synchronicities.

That gigantic challenge, where the capacity and energy to reinvent life in all aspects was put to the test, is now part of the past. However, all that substratum of experiences will serve to harvest what was sown in the midst of adversities.
