The Investigative Police, commonly known by the letters PDI, plays an integral role in maintaining public safety in Chile. The PDI also deals with the prevention and investigation of organized crime, drug trafficking, cybercrime, abuse, murder and other criminal acts. A foreigner visiting Chile will meet the International Police (part of the PDI) who verify documents before they can enter the country. June 19 of each year has been declared "Chilean Investigative Police Day" or Detective Day.
The Chilean Ministry of Education helped establish this day to help Chilean students learn more about the role of the Investigative Police in society.
