On April 1, 1899, the first hydroelectric plant in Ecuador was inaugurated, in the city of Loja, beginning the transformation towards the use of renewable natural sources in the country and it is since 1991 that the day of the Electrical and Electronics Engineer's Day in Ecuador, on this date as resolved by the CIEEPI (non-profit organization in Quito, Ecuador).
