Since 1937, every October 23rd in Mexico is celebrated the Physician's Day. This date coincides with the creation of the Establishment of Medical Sciences in 1833, currently the Faculty of Medicine of the UNAM.
Within the country's health system, physicians play an important role in the capacity and response of public health institutions. In Mexico currently have more than 225 thousand physicians (men and women) who, together with nearly 312 thousand nurses and other health professionals, provide more than one million medical services daily: around 4 thousand 300 births, close to one million consultations, almost 10 thousand surgeries, more than 16 thousand hospitalizations and close to 100 thousand emergencies.
