On October 31, 1989, during the government of Alfredo Cristiani, the facilities of the National Trade Union Federation of Salvadoran Workers (Federación Nacional Sindical de Trabajadores Salvadoreños) were the site of an attack in which many trade unionists were injured and others lost their lives.
A year later, by legislative decree, during the year 1990, this day was declared as the day of the Salvadoran trade unionist.
In this framework, the labor movement carried out the celebration of this day expressing a series of demands of the workers in this context.
