Cartoonists Day
Cartoonists Day is held on May 5. They were the favorite part of the morning paper for many of us growing up. This event in the first decade of the month May is annual. Help us
Today, we most commonly use the term cartoon to refer to 'a comical drawing,' 'comic strip,' or 'animated film or television show,' yet its roots in English dates back to the fine arts. Cartoon characters are extremely popular among children all around the world. Cartoonists may work in many formats, such as animation, booklets, comic strips, comic books, editorial cartoons, graphic novels, manuals, gag cartoons, graphic design, illustrations, storyboards, posters, shirts, books, advertisements, greeting cards, magazines, newspapers, and video game packaging.
The founder of Playboy (Hugh Hefner) was a failed cartoonist (he enrolled in a figure-drawing course at the Art Institute of Chicago). He was honored by the National Cartoonists Society in 1963 with the Ace Award, “given to a celebrity or notable who at one time aspired to be a cartoonist but whose path led them to an entirely different career.”
