The Day of the Mestizo was made an official date in the city of Manaus by Law No 934, sanctioned by Mayor Seraphim Correa and authored by Councilor Williams Tata, in addition to the idealization of journalist Assis Piño of the Pardo-Brazilian Mestizo Movement (Métis Nation).
The 27th of June is a reference to the 27 delegates elected during the 1st Municipal Conference on Policies for the Promotion of Racial Equality, held in Manaus, Amazonas, from 7th to 9th April 2005, and also to the month of June, in which , Helda de Sá, a mestizo cabocla from Amazonas, after systematic opposition from militants from the black and indigenous movement, registered as the only mestizo delegate to participate in the first Conapir – National Conference for the Promotion of Racial Equality, held in Brasília (Distrito Federal) from June 30 to July 2, 2005.
On March 21, 2006, on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, Governor Eduardo Braga sanctioned Law no 3.044. the Day of the Mestizo is an official date in the State of Amazonas.
