World Olive Day was proclaimed at the 40th session of the General Conference of UNESCO in 2019, and will be celebrated on November 26 each year.
The olive tree, and specifically the olive branch, holds an important place in the minds of men and women. Since ancient times, it has symbolized peace, wisdom and harmony and, as such, is important not only for the countries in which these noble trees grow, but also for individuals and communities around the world.
The General Conference, having examined document 40 C/66, recognizing the values of peace, wisdom and harmony symbolized by the olive tree, underlining the social, cultural, economic and environmental importance of olive growing, decides to proclaim 26 November of each year as World Olive Day.
There is much to learn, share and celebrate on International Olive Day, so UNESCO encourages the participation of all through debates, conferences, workshops, cultural events and presentations or exhibitions.
