The peasant, farmer or rancher, with his work and effort, produces the land and animals, resources that were given to us and that are known worldwide, because they represent a major source of wealth. Every June 24, is celebrated nationally, the Day of the Farmer, which recognizes all farm workers, who with their hard work and perseverance, contribute to the economic, social and food development of the country.
Law Nº 17716 ''Agrarian Reform Law'', enacted during the government of Juan Velasco Alvarado, gave agriculture the importance it deserved and terms such as ''Day of the Indian'' were changed to ''Day of the Farmer''.
It recognizes the work of the peasants as promoters and generators of agricultural wealth in the country and their efforts to keep the population fed.
