Everyone loves French croissants, but how much do you know about them? It’s the day we can pay a tribute to the tastiest, flakiest pastry of all - the Croissant. On January 30, we annually recognize International Croissant Day, so channel your inner Parisian baker today and say “oui” to these buttery treats! A classic French pastry that was introduced to them from Austria. The original croissant was called Kipfel and originated in Austria in 1683. Croissants used to be for the wealthy because the ingredients were too expensive.
August Zang, an Austrian artillery officer, is credited with bringing the croissant to France when he opened his own Viennese bakery in Paris. The Croissant became the French national product in 1920. The US and Canada have a special day honouring the croissant.
