The National Journalist's Day in Venezuela has historical roots, and was assumed by the National College of Journalists, constituted in 1976 by mandate of the first Law on the Practice of Journalism (1972). Article 40 of the Venezuelan Constitution states: "The National Day of the Venezuelan Journalist will be June 27th of each year, in commemoration of the birth of the 'Correo del Orinoco' in 1818, spokesman of the national emancipation; and considered a holiday for journalists".
However, there are those who still maintain that to be a journalist in Venezuela is to be in danger, since it has become a risky profession in recent years and has been "unjustly" the target of questioning (unjustified or exaggerated) by presidential language and political fanaticism.
But beyond the extensive and eternal discussion that may arise about the role that the media should play in the coverage of events related to contingency situations, whether produced by natural situations or by situations of armed conflict, violence, tensions or internal disturbances, in crisis situations in general, it is essential to reflect on the responsibility with which the communicator should assume this work in the humanitarian field. As an infallible ethical and moral principle, the journalist must assume, at the time of informing, the social responsibility, not to be untruthful and to have verifiable sources to have an argumentative base on what he is talking about.
