Delaware is named after the first governor of Virginia. Delaware is the second smallest State in America On December 7, 1787, the delegates, meeting in Dover at Battell's Tavern (also known as the Golden Fleece Tavern) unanimously made Delaware the first state to ratify the United States Constitution. Delaware's willingness to seize the initiative was very important.
Delaware is sometimes referred to as the Chemical Capital of the World. A majority of the state's economy relies heavily on chemical manufacturing, including pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals and plastics.
The State is known for its Delaware chicken. There is a specific chicken breed that originates from Delaware. George Ellis of Delaware is the one who created the breed in 1940. The chicken breed was once of relative importance to the U.S. chicken industry.
