Orthopaedic nurses play an important role in recovery from musculoskeletal diseases and traumas. They provide patients with professional and competent care in hospitals, clinics, private homes, nursing homes and physical offices. They are responsible for different procedures, including removing stitches, installation of orthoses, installation and removal of splints etc.
International Orthopaedic Nurses Day is celebrated by the orthopaedic nurses around the world on October 30. This celebration was started in the USA back in 1990 and it was presented by Senator Carl Levin to then-President George H. W. Bush.
The first celebration of Orthopaedic Nurses Day was supported by the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses and it was held in Michigan. Later this tradition spread across America. Since 2001 this celebration is organized on international level.
