Children's Media Festival - Goldener Spatz

Children's Media Festival - Goldener Spatz is held on June 1. This event in the first decade of the month June is annual.
The children's media festival "Goldener Spatz" is the largest media festival for children in Germany and celebrates its 45th birthday in June 2024. It was first launched in 1979 as the "National Festival 'Goldener Spatz' for children's films from the GDR in cinema and television" and has developed into an all-German event.
Over the years, the festival has developed considerably. After the end of the GDR in 1989, it became an all-German festival. The competition, which originally only included cinema films and television contributions, was expanded to include all types of children's media. Since 2001, apps, games, websites and other digital media offerings for children have also been able to take part in the "Digital" competition.
A special feature of the festival is the children's jury, which consists of around 30 children between the ages of 9 and 13. This jury decides independently on the winners and presents the coveted Golden Sparrow on a large stage in Erfurt. The festival takes place annually in the Thuringian cities of Gera and Erfurt and offers film screenings, workshops and the opportunity to meet media professionals.
