International Schizophrenia Awareness Day
International Schizophrenia Awareness Day is held on August 16. This event in the second decade of the month August is annual.
Schizophrenia is a condition that affects a person's ability to think, feel and behave lucidly.
Today, August 16, International Schizophrenia Awareness Day, is an opportunity to raise awareness of this and other mental health conditions that a portion of the population may have.
Although the exact cause is unknown, it is thought that it may have to do with a combination of genetic and environmental factors, as well as alterations in brain chemicals and structures.
Schizophrenia is characterized by thoughts or experiences that seem disconnected from reality, disorganized speech or behavior, and decreased participation in daily activities; difficulties with concentration and memory may also occur.
It is worth noting that it is a condition that generally appears at the end of adolescence, or between 20 and 30 years of age, and according to WHO data, it usually appears earlier in men than in women.
