International Medical Physics Day

Medical physics is the branch of physics that uses principles, laws, models, methods, and techniques in practice and research to prevent, diagnose, and treat disease in order to improve human health and well-being.

Medical physicists are professionals whose training allows them to formulate scientific and technical knowledge of physics for medical applications.

To raise awareness of the medical physics profession, the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP) has celebrated International Medical Physicist Day on November 7 since 2013. This day coincides with the birthday of Marie Skłodowska-Curie, a pioneer in radioactivity research.
