As from the year 2003, by means of declaration Nº 2053 of the Chamber of Deputies of the Nation, every April 11 was instituted as "National Rowing Day" (Día Nacional del Remero), commemorating the birth of Alberto Demiddi, the greatest exponent of the history of this discipline in country.
The history of the Argentine city of Tigre is linked to this sport, since in 1873 the first regatta in Argentina was held there, on the Luján River. From that date, the district attracted the attention of lovers of the discipline and, from 1888 onwards, different clubs chose to settle in the district.
In 2012, at the initiative of the then Mayor Sergio Massa, the Legislature of the Province of Buenos Aires approved the bill that constitutes the district, due to its great trajectory, as Provincial Capital of Argentine Rowing.
