International Cleaners Day is the 15th of June, and it calls for world wide recognition and respect for the important work done by cleaners and janitors to support the health and well being of businesses and communities around the world.
International Cleaners Day evolved from the ‘International Day of Justice for Cleaners and Security Guards’, an event held in London on the 15th of June 2015, to highlight their fight to earn a ‘real living wage’.
The 15th of June was selected as the official date because it is the anniversary of the 1990 ‘Justice For Janitors’ march in Century City, LA. The Justice for Janitors march ended in 50 baton-wielding police beating protesters and injuring dozens of demonstrators.
