A physician is a professional who practices medicine and attempts to maintain and restore health by studying, diagnosing and treating the patient's illness or injury. The objective of this profession is the preservation, recovery and rehabilitation of the individual in order to integrate him/her into the social environment. In 1946, the Pan American Medical Confederation agreed to commemorate December 3 as "International Medical Day" (Día Internacional del Médico) or Pan American Day of the Physician, in memory of the Cuban physician Carlos J. Finlay, discoverer of Aedes aegypti as a transmitter of yellow fever. Recall that each country may have its own date for honoring medical professionals.
