This date was instituted in honor of the birth of Professor Julio Santana Garay, who stood out for teaching, researching and stimulating the awareness of professionals in Latin America and the world regarding the prevention and early diagnosis of precancerous lesions and oral cancer.
This type of tumor affects the tissues of the oral cavity (lips, jaw, upper jaw, tongue, gums, cheek and throat) and manifests itself with ulcers that do not heal in a reasonable time, enlargement of the tissues of the mouth, pain when chewing and/or swallowing, changes in the voice, among others. As these symptoms can also be caused by other diseases, it is important to make an early consultation to start treatment in time.
