Today, December 6, Uruguay pays tribute to all specialists who study and analyze our behaviors and mental processes on the National Day of the Psychologist. A date on which the important work of Wilhelm Wundt, the first psychologist in history, William James or Sigmund Freud, among others, is remembered.
On December 6, 1983, the coordinating committee of psychologists' guilds was created and on the same day in 1985 the General Senate of University Psychology was created. For these reasons, it is the date chosen to celebrate the National Day of the Psychologist.
At the university level, Psychology courses have been taught since the 1940s and in 1956 the first Psychology Degree was created at the University of the Republic. Today the profession is studied at UDELAR, the Catholic University and the Francisco de Asís University Institute in Maldonado.
