On November 24, Primate Pride Day or Evolution Day is celebrated for many reasons, from the vindication of Charles Darwin's theory of evolution to the recognition of the importance of the scientific method.
Every November 24th the world celebrates Evolution Day, and since 2010, in Spain and Latin America we celebrate Primate Pride Day (Día del Orgullo Primate). The reason for choosing this date is because two important events occurred to validate the theory of evolution, which is not accepted by creationists.
First, because on this date "The Origin of Species" was published in 1859, Charles Darwin's masterpiece, which laid the foundations of modern evolutionary biology. Thanks to Darwin's work, we know that we are the product of evolution through natural selection and not the product of a magical act of an omnipotent being.
And secondly, because on November 24, 1974, archaeologist Donald Johanson discovered Lucy in Ethiopia, the skeleton of a hominid belonging to the Australopithecus afarensis species, about 3 million years old.
