The Day of Culture was established in Cuba in 1980. Since then, a whole day of activities has been held every year.
The National Culture Day is celebrated today as a tribute to the fact that on October 20, 1868, in the city of Bayamo, was sung for the first time what would later become their National Anthem.
The instrumental part of the anthem had been composed in advance by Pedro "Perucho" Figueredo, who on that October 20 created the lyrics to the joy of the people of Bayamo who were celebrating the occupation of the city by the independence fighters.
It was thus that current National Anthem was sung for the first time, which reflects with particular significance the decision of Cubans to give their lives in defense of the cause of their homeland, by saying: To die for the Homeland, is to live.
