Today is Children's Day in Venezuela in commemoration of the ratification of the rights of children and adolescents in this country.
At the suggestion of the United Nations, each nation that recognizes the Convention on the Rights of the Child celebrates this day on a different date. In Venezuela, the third Sunday of July of each year was chosen to reaffirm through an approving law the compliance with this universal Convention.
In 1990, Venezuela, through a decree on August 29, ratified its recognition and adoption of this law. In Venezuela the International Convention on the Rights of the Child was ratified in 1990, with the action of the Venezuelan State, work was undertaken to provide children with a legal tool guaranteeing the respect of their rights. Subsequently, the Organic Law for the Protection of Children and Adolescents (Lopna) was sanctioned in 1998 and entered into force in 2000, promoting the protection of children and adolescents.
