Insurance Day or Continental Insurance Day is celebrated every year on May 14 in Spain and in most of the American continent. It is in the latter territory where it was named Continental Insurance Day. In Spain, the entry into force of the first Insurance Law in 1908 and in America the first Hemispheric Insurance Conference.
After some countries such as England, Switzerland, Germany and France legally regulated the insurance sector with different regulations, in Spain, on May 14, 1908, the "Law regulating Companies, Societies, Associations and any entity whose purpose is to carry out insurance operations" came into force.
The person in charge of drafting the first regulation in 1908 was Augusto Gonzalez Besada, Minister of Public Works during the government of Antonio Maura. This law was drafted according to the criteria of José María Delás Miralles, who belonged to the private insurance sector.
