All three angels are celebrated on the traditional Michaelmas Day. According to Catholicism, Michael fought against satan and is the protector of humanity. In parts of Sweden, the day is known as Mickelsmäss, according to the Multireligious Almanac.
Mickelsmäss - the first day of the winter season and a great day of celebration for young people in the past. In farming society, Mickelsmäss was one of the most important festivals, at least until the 19th century. It marked the change between summer and winter, which governed work. The harvest would now be harvested, the animals brought home from the mountain pastures, says the Nordic Museum. It was also a day for feasting and perhaps eating pea soup - a classic Swedish home cooking dish.
