5 February - The Carnival Gualeguaychú in Argentina
Gualeguaychú is an Argentine municipality of the department of Gualeguaychú, being head of the province of Entre Ríos. It is located on the banks of the Homónimo River, 230 km northwest of the city of Buenos Aires and 25 km west of Uruguay.
Its main activities are agriculture, industry and tourism, having as main focus the "Carnival of the Country", the biggest in Argentina. It had its beginnings at the end of the XIX century but, due to the little illumination it had at the time, it was held in the afternoon. Over the years it was transformed and in the twentieth century there were very important groups, such as Nero, which represented the Roman emperor and came to have 200 members.
In 1979 it began with the new format carried out by local institutions and in 1981 it started its great path to become what it is today: the biggest open air festival that takes place in our country.
When summer begins in the province of Entre Ríos, the city of Gualeguaychú makes its presence felt. After some months of preparations, it is ready and full of energy in each of its streets and inhabitants, thus beginning what will later conclude in the long-awaited days of the carnival. This takes place in the Corsodromo of the city.
We must highlight the traditional comparsas of Gualeguaychú: Marí Marí, O'Bahía, Kamarr, Papelitos and Ara Yeví. Among these five, only three compete in each King Momo's disinterment, during January and February, seeking to become the champion and have the privilege of returning the following year to defend their title. The Carnival of the Country is a space where there is only joy. That is why everyone who has enjoyed it recommends it, both for groups of young and old people and entire families.
Everyone enjoys the magical comparsas and their parades, which between feathers, sequins and drums inevitably move with their bewitching rhythm.
