Mayday for Mutts
Mayday for Mutts is held on May 4. First Sunday in May. This event in the first decade of the month May is annual. Help us
It’s a day to spread the word about all the great things that mixed breed dogs have to offer, promote adoption from animal shelters, and show everyone that a dog’s individual personality matters more than their pedigree. Purebred dogs deserve love, too, but mixed breed dogs make up about 75 percent of dogs in animal shelters, so they need a little bit of extra help in getting adopted, especially during Mayday for Mutts.
Mixed breeds are often the ultimate family dog. Mutts draw from a broader, more diverse gene pool. They are thought to adjust more easily to a variety of households and living conditions, whereas purebreds tend to be bred with a specific skill set in mind, like herding or hunting.
