On March 19, the Day of the Artisan (Día del Artesano) is commemorated in Mexico, with the objective of recognizing the ingenuity and dedication that their hands capture in wood, fabric, stone and other materials.
The celebration is dedicated to the men and women who give their talent to preserve the popular art that identifies the different regions of country.
The Day of the Artisan is also an opportunity to highlight another important task they perform every day: transmitting their knowledge to new generations, so that their tradition is preserved.
The Fondo Nacional para el Fomento de las Artesaníasis a federal government public trust fund under the Ministry of Social Development that responds to the need to promote the human, social and economic development of Mexico's artisans. It was established on May 28, 1974 by mandate of the Federal Executive with the social purpose of promoting artisan activity in the country.
