The rulers of the Restoration, as well as those of several American countries, declared a holiday on the day that marked four centuries since Rodrigo Triana's shout announcing land, making October 12 the first civil holiday of the modern age to be celebrated by several countries. The first Empire Day, self-homage of the subjects of the British Empire on the birthday of Queen Victoria, took place on May 24, 1902.
Once 1892 passed, October 12 fell into institutional oblivion. Only the emigrant communities abroad celebrated it in their regional centers. The boom of the date came in the second decade of the 20th century. As of 1910 it was declared an annual holiday in Panama, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Guatemala, Paraguay, Bolivia, El Salvador, Ecuador and Uruguay.
