The Angolan Armed Forces were created on 9 October 1991. The principles that govern the constitution of the Angolan Armed Forces or FAA were defined in a joint proposal presented by the Comissão Conjunta para a formação das Forças Armadas (CCFA) on 24 September 1991 and approved on 9 October 1991 by the Comissão Conjunta Político-Militar (CCPM), whose signatories were Generals França Ndalu (Government) and Engineer Salupeto Pena ( National Union for the Total Independence of Angola or UNITA). The official document became known as “General Bases for the Training of the Angolan Armed Forces”, constituting Directive No. 1.
