The Anniversary of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States is celebrated every February 5. The origin of this national holiday is due to the fact that on February 5, 1917 the current version of the Political Constitution was promulgated, published on the same day in the Official Gazette of the Federation, which went into effect in May of that year.
February 5 is commonly known as the "Day of the Mexican Constitution", which is the "Magna Carta" of the country. Because it is a holiday, most businesses, schools and government offices are closed for the day. During this time, festivals and parades are organized throughout the country, although in general there is a dry law, and the sale of alcohol is prohibited, as a symbol of respect to the lucidity of the authors of the document itself.
The document was signed in the city of Querétaro, around the appointment of General Venustiano Carranza as Constitutional President of the country.
