National Dance Day is commemorated on October 10 in honor of the nine dancers belonging to the Teatro Colón staff who died in 1971 in a plane crash.
The plane was on its way from Buenos Aires to Chubut, and among the passengers were nine dancers belonging to the Ballet Estable del Teatro Colón, who were to perform at the Teatro Español in Trelew for a benefit show.
The dancers were Antonio Zambrana, Norma Fontenla, José Neglia, Carlos Schiafino, Margarita Fernández, Carlos Santamarina, Rubén Stanga, Sara Bochousky and Marta Raspanti.
