Thimphu Drubchen in Bhutan

Thimphu Drubchen in Bhutan is held on September 17. It is precedes the popular three-day Thimphu Tshechu festival. The Drubchen showcases the sacred dances dedicated to the protecting deity of Bhutan. This event in the second decade of the month September is annual.
The day-long festival of Thimphu Drubchen (popularly known as Thimphu Dromchoe) dates back to the early 18th century. It was first introduced by Kuenga Gyeltshen in 1710, who was the first reincarnation of Jampel Dorji, son of Zhabdrung Nawang Namgyel.
The Dromchey showcases the sacred masked dance dedicated to the protecting deity of Bhutan, Pelden Lhamo. It was first introduced by Kuenga Gyeltshen in 1710 when he had visions of the Buddhist goddess Pelden Lhamo performing amazing dances before his eyes while he was meditating. Based on his visions, Kuenga Gyeltshen initiated the dance ceremony. The Dromchey is celebrated 3days prior to Thimphu Tshechu.
