St. Stephen's Day (Lá Fhéile Stiofáin), also called Boxing Day, Wren Day, or Constitution Day, one of two holidays widely observed in honour of two Christian saints.
St. Stephen's Day, who was stoned to death in 36 AD, is celebrated on 26 December in Western Christianity and 27 December in Eastern Christianity.. As the name suggests, the day is dedicated to the Christian Saint Stephen. This day commemorates the saint who was the first Christian martyr and was known for his service to the poor and needy.
In Latin Christian denominations, Saint Stephen's Day marks the second day of Christmastide.
In the Republic of Ireland, the day is one of nine official public holidays. Its name is sometimes shortened to "Stephen's Day", particularly in informal contexts.
