On this date in 1945, the First and Second Supreme Chambers of the People's Court marked the history of the Third Bulgarian State with the most massive sentencing of politicians to death. 67 deputies of the XXV National Assembly, the three governments for the period January 1941 to September 3, 1944 headed by Prime Ministers Bogdan Filov, Dobri Bozhilov and Ivan Bagryanov (23 politicians in total) were sentenced to death.
February 1 was commemorated for the first time in 2011, when it was established by a decision of the GERB government with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov as the official Day of Appreciation and Tribute to the Victims of the Communist Regime.
