National Children’s Day in Indonesia is different from International Children’s Day and World Children’s Day. Indonesia celebrates National Children’s Day every July 23rd. The difference is in the date of the event and the scale of the people who celebrate it. There is a lot of history and complicated processes involved in this National Children’s Day. This event was decided during the reign of President Soeharto or we can also call it the New Order period.
The beginning of this National Children’s Day came from the Indonesian Women’s Congress. The idea came about during the school holidays in July 1952. The purpose of holding this event is to see children, as national assets, who are happy, playful, and cheerful. The date of this event has changed many times in early June and even changed to June 6th on Soekarno’s birthday. The National Children’s Day activities are carried out from the central level to the regional level.
