The celebration of Engineer's Day in Mexico arose on October 29, 1973 when the then Secretary of Communications and Transportation, Eugenio Méndez Docurro, proposed to the President of the Republic, Luis Echeverría Álvarez, to establish July 1 as National Engineer's Day. .
It was proposed that it be July 1 because, on this date, but in 1776, the Royal Certificate was issued for the creation of the Royal Mining Tribunal in Mexico, which gave rise to the foundation of the teaching and research center called Royal Mining Seminary, where the first curricula and texts for the first engineering schools in America took place.
