Arbor Day, much like Earth Day, is a holiday that celebrates nature. Its purpose is to encourage people to plant trees, and many communities traditionally take the opportunity to organize tree-planting and litter-collecting events on or around the holiday.
In China, Arbor Day is a public holiday on celebrated on March 12. The date was chosen to commemorate the passing of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, known as the father of modern China, in 1925. Sun Yat-sen (12 November 1866 – 12 March 1925) was a Chinese statesman, physician, and political philosopher, who served as the first provisional president of the Republic of China and the first leader of the Kuomintang (Nationalist Party of China).
