The Hitzacker Summer Music Days are Germany's oldest chamber music festival and also one of the most innovative. Every summer, for nine days from the last Saturday in July, they transform the picturesque half-timbered town of Hitzacker on the Elbe into a center of international music culture that radiates far beyond the country's borders. The festival brings together tradition and the present and offers a diverse program with renowned artists and ensembles.
Before the Second World War, Hitzacker was a small town with around 2000 inhabitants. Due to the influx of displaced persons at the end of the war, the population doubled. The refugees included many musicians, and after initial house and church concerts, the 1st Hitzacker Summer Music Days were held in the summer of 1946.
The Hitzacker Summer Music Days are a unique musical event that combines the beauty of the town of Hitzacker with top-class musical performances. It is a cultural highlight that music lovers should not miss!
