Research shows that when women serve in cabinets and parliaments, they pass laws and policies that are better for ordinary people, the environment and social cohesion. Advancing measures to increase women’s participation in peace and political processes is vital to achieving women’s de facto equality in the context of entrenched discrimination.
June 24 is International Day of Women in Diplomacy (Resolution adopted by the General Assembly
on June 20, 2022 A/RES/76/269). The United Nations recognizes that women in diplomacy have contributed significantly to the existing multilateral system. In particular, women diplomats were instrumental in drafting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
