In the Middle Ages, Invocabit Sunday, the first Sunday in Lent, was referred to as "White Sunday" because in Rome, candidates for baptism who wanted to be baptized on the Easter Vigil went to church in white baptismal robes for the first time on this Sunday and took part in the service.
In the Protestant liturgy, the Sunday is referred to as Quasimodogeniti (Like newborn children) after the first words of the Introit Quasi modo geniti infantes (Like newborn children); the Introit takes up the motif of the rebirth of the Christian through baptism.
