Welcome to Fürther Kärwa - one of the oldest folk festivals in Franconia, also affectionately known as "Fädder Kärwa"! The tradition probably goes back to the consecration of St. Michael's Church around 1100. The festival starts on September 29, the name day of St. Michael the Archangel, or the following Saturday, and lasts for twelve days. A special highlight is the harvest thanksgiving procession on the second Sunday of the fair, which was first held in 1817 after years of poor harvests.
Fürth's city center becomes the stage for this street fair - unique because there are no tents here! Instead, you can expect small rides, pubs and food stalls with delicious "Bradworschd" (sausages). Traders and market criers offer their wares, and the Kärwa itself is immortalized on the list of Bavarian cultural heritage as well as in the Federal Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Look forward to twelve days of authentic tradition, a lively atmosphere and unforgettable experiences at the Fürth Kärwa!
