International Bear Protection Day
International Bear Protection Day is held on February 21. This event in the third decade of the month February is annual. Help us
A date that reminds us of the importance of protecting these animals that, in addition to providing important ecosystem services, are a bastion of humanity.
Eight species of bears coexist around the world: Giant Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca); Malayan Bear (Helarctos malayanus); Brown Bear (Ursus arctos); Sloth Bear (Melursus ursinus); Asiatic Black Bear (Ursus thibetanus); Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus); American Black Bear (Ursus americanus) and the Andean Bear (Tremarctos ornatus).
In some cases, these species have been declared in a vulnerable state of extinction, as is the case with the Andean bear, the only one that inhabits South America and Colombia. Given its value to this ecosystem, today we recall this species, which is a national treasure of many countries.
