Today the government pays tribute to all the victims of the coup d'état, civil war and Franco dictatorship on the occasion of the Democratic Memory Law, which came into force in October 2022.
The Law of Democratic Memory, which has entered into force after its final approval in the Senate, declares October 31 as a day of remembrance and tribute to all the victims of the military coup, the Civil War and the dictatorship.
Likewise, May 8 has been established as a day of remembrance and homage to the men and women who suffered exile as a consequence of the Civil War and Franco's dictatorship.
The law considers as victims those persons who have suffered physical, moral or psychological harm, property damage or impairment of fundamental rights from the coup d'état of July 18, 1936 until the entry into force of the 1978 Constitution.
