Journalist's Day is commemorated in Chile every July 11; however, in other countries the holiday is celebrated on different days. June 11 commemorates the promulgation of Law 12.045, of July 11, 1956, which resolved the creation of the Chilean College of Journalists.
That law states that the mission of the College of Journalists is to oversee, supervise, improve and protect the profession of journalism.
In this way, the institution also seeks to promote communication and the full defense of freedom of expression, press and information, within the framework of respect for human rights.
The Association of Journalists indicated that "we salute the journalists who fulfill their professional work with commitment and social responsibility, as indicated in our Code of Ethics".
