Librarian's Day was born in 1969, when the law approving the constitution of the Chilean Librarians Association was enacted and published in the Official Gazette on July 10 of that year. That day was set as the date to celebrate the people who, according to the definition of the Dictionary of the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language, are "in charge of the care, organization and service of a library".
In Chile there are more than 450 people doing this work in public libraries from Visviri to Puerto Williams. Some of them have the title of Librarian, but many are those who have come to perform this work without having the technical knowledge that the profession provides, but with dedication, love and vocation have managed to move forward their libraries and transform them into centers of reading, information, connectivity, leisure and entertainment of their communities.
