Mathematics Day in Colombia is held on May 12. This event in the second decade of the month May is annual. Help us
On this day, Colombians celebrate the birthday of Pedro Puig Adam, the Spanish mathematician known worldwide for the didactics of mathematics. This is a good reason for this date to be a day of reflection on the importance of mathematics in knowing and understanding the world, as well as in all the everyday activities we perform.
The Spanish mathematician and engineer, Pedro Adam, studied industrial engineering and natural sciences in his hometown, and earned his doctorate in mathematics in Madrid with a thesis entitled "Solution of some elementary problems in constrained relativistic mechanics" (Resolución de algunos problemas elementales en mecánica relativista restringida). He was assistant professor of geometry at the ICAI and, since 1926, professor at the San Isidro Institute in Madrid.
